With a “snip snip” from a stylist’s hair shears, locks that had been growing for 25 years was chopped off. Orange County, California resident, Siosala Tuitahi, a native of Tonga, hadn’t had his hair cut in 25 years – and his son, 8-year-old Nipa, had never had his hair cut at all.

So why the need for hair shears, and shorter hair? Nipon is starting at a new school that requires hair to be at least one foot shorter than his was! So, after eight years of growing it out, it was time for a haircut.

Nipa’s father decided cut his hair for the first time in 25 years as well, to show support for his son, who had never undergone such a rituatl. After a final long-haired family portrait, they got their hair chopped off, and both of them donated their former ponytails to Locks of Love, a charity for children who have lost their hair due to illness.
